Summary of Investment Plan
Proceeds from the sale of Maine's RGGI CO2 allowances are allocated according to Title 35-A §10101 - §10121, which establishes Efficiency Maine Trust and directs Trustees to invest RGGI auction proceeds in electric and fossil fuel energy efficiency programs.
Investment Highlights
So far, the Trust has invested:
- $7.1 million in its Large Projects Grant Program, a program to provide grants between $100,000 and $1 million for large-scale energy efficiency projects, including combined heat and power (CHP) systems. In 2009, a total of 36 grants were awarded, 19 of which were funded by RGGI. The 19 RGGI projects will avoid more than 459,000 metric tons of CO2 over their lifetime
- $5.8 million in the Efficiency Maine Business Program, a program to provide prescriptive and custom incentives for businesses to replace out of date equipment and upgrade to energy-efficient alternatives.
- $2.9 million in the Efficiency Maine Residential Lighting Program and Efficiency Maine Appliance Rebate Program. Programs are designed to reduce energy demand and provide sustained energy cost savings for Maine consumers.
- $650,000 in low-income weatherization programs
