Ed Potosnak is the Acting Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, leading the state’s efforts to protect the environment and public health, while growing the economy. As part of Governor Mikie Sherrill’s Mission to Deliver, he is responsible for continuing DEP’s progress to advance New Jersey’s resilience to flooding and extreme weather, addressing toxic chemicals such as PFAS, cleaning up contaminated sites and, importantly, streamlining the environmental permitting process. Before joining DEP, he served as executive director of the environmental group, New Jersey LCV, and early in his career, taught high school chemistry. A New Jersey native, Acting Commissioner Potosnak graduated from Rutgers University, with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in education.
